Guessing the Lilac Bloom Dates for 2012

Does anyone have a guess on the lilac bloom dates for 2012 as a result of our unseasonable winter?

According to what I have been reading in the Town Crier and blogs, the lilacs are right on time--nothing early.  My lilacs are just starting to open and I live in mid-Michigan and its right on time for us also.

The Mackinac Island tourist bureau as had calls about the lilacs and they are not worried.

I am attempting to attach one of Brenda Horton's blogs with some info in it (Bree's Blog).  Read the very first entry, don't let the Christmas heading throw you!

Thanks Pat!  We're bringing our employees and spouses up there June 1st and we were hoping they would be blooming by then.  No one in our company has ever seen Mackinac so we are all very excited!

What a great employer!  What company do you work for?

Nebrig & Associates, Inc.....do you go to Mackinac often?

Oh, yes (now you got me started)!  We first honeymooned there 41 yrs ago, then visited fairly regular.  My daughter served at the Scout Service Camp or Mackinac Island Governor's Honor Guard for 6 summers (for one week) and I as an adult leader for 15 years.  Last year we spend just over a week with the entire family for our 40th anniversary.  We call it Mackinac Magic and the Native Americans knew this was a holy special place.  You have to get beyond the downtown area to truly appreciate the history, nature and beauty of this island.

We are going twice, once in May for a convention then in June with my daughter and her family.

Hi Lorie,

Where do I start?  Since you are going during the Lilac Festival there are many things to see, go to the Chamber of Commerce/Tourist Information booth across from the Arnold Ferry dock (its in between the Murray Hotel and the Carriage Tours).  Fort Mackinac is very interesting and the downtown buildings that are included with your ticket.  The Stuart House Museum on Market St. next to City Hall, if Brenda is working she is a wealth of information (she does the Mackinac Bree's Blog).  The Governor's Residence has tours every Wednesday I'm not sure of the times but its mornings and I think they are done around noon.

You will keep busy but save time just to sit and take in the Mackinac Magic!

This is our 5th year in a row going to the island (6th time altogether) but first time going during the Lilac festival.  I am so excited & can't wait!  Usually we go the week before Labor Day, it's very quiet & most of the activities at the parks are closed for the season.  Super excited to see things we have never seen before.  Any pointers or tips?

Thanks! :)

We just returned from Mackinac yesterday and the lilacs are almost in full bloom!  This is the earliest I have ever seen it.  Hopes for lilacs for the festival are slim I'm afraid.
