About the Mackinac Island Blog:

I created the Mackinac Island Blog to provide visitors and fans of Mackinac Island an online source of timely information, news and interesting facts presented in a format that is regularly updated. Unlike normal websites, the blog allows readers to comment on my postings as well as suggest items and news they would like to see included here.

The key feature is the blog itself, where I write about interesting news and information about the island. In most cases, I will include a link to the topic I'm writing about, along with a relevant picture or video when available.

Not to be overlooked is my Twitter feed, where I frequently link to other Mackinac Island news sources as well as other blogs that are covering MI in some manner that day. I do not always cover that news in the primary blog, so be sure to check the Twitter feed which is directly below the blog posts.

The blog welcomes press releases and other timely information from Mackinac Island businesses. If you would like to reach people seeking information about the island, please contact me at the e-mail or phone listed at the top of this page.

Opinions expressed in the blog are my own. All of my original content is copyright Michael Forrester, 2009. Where applicable, images and trade names used in this blog are the property of their respective owners.

Biography:

I've been fascinated with Mackinac Island since I first saw the location in the movie 'Somewhere In Time' back in 1980. I watched the credits and then contacted the Tourism Bureau for more information. Of course back then, it took a while before I received the information and while great for visitors, it told me little about the island itself.

Over the years, my interest moved to other areas, but in 1998 I had a chance to visit a friend in Michigan who lived about 90 minutes from Mackinaw City. Naturally we visited - and I fell in love with the island. My first thought was 'this is what Walt Disney was trying to re-create in Disneyland.'

While perhaps Disney was thinking more of Marceline, MO, where he grew up, I think he would respect the comparison. The island is authentic. It beckons me to slow my pace, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Since 1998, I've made numerous trips to the island and came to the point where I wanted to find a way to share my enthusiasm for the island with others. This blog is a starting point, though I hope to produce a documentary film in the near future.

Making this blog a resource for information is a result of my desire to inform and assist travelers about Mackinac Island. Beyond visitors, the blog also includes historic and newsworthy information that anyone could find interesting.

If you have information, stories, history or suggestions to share, they are welcomed. There are many people much more knowledgeable about Mackinac Island than myself, so I'm thrilled to have your input and interest. I appreciate having the opportunity to share my enthusiasm for Mackinac Island.

If you're interested in my day job, which is owner of a video production company in Atlanta, Georgia, visit my website at: www.forrestermedia.com.

Thanks for visiting!
