Back to reality...for now

Mackinac Island offers visitors many different options for relaxation, biking, hiking, riding horses, but this trip it offered me a chance to meet some incredible people. While I've been a fan of the island for over a decade, it's only been a few months I've started writing about it in this blog, Twitter or Facebook. Yet in that short time, the internet has allowed me to meet folks I would have never known otherwise.

A great weekend on Mackinac Island

Though the great weather would have been enough to make this past weekend memorable, I have to admit it was meeting all the great people on the island. I've spent a few hours each day talking to some long time residents, new residents and visitors like myself. Each of them has contributed to making this visit the best yet, and I'll be sharing their advice, tips and stories in upcoming posts.

In the meantime, I still have one more day on the island, so it's back to exploring!

Computer Curses

Pardon the interruption...but my computer has crashed. Of all places my new Dell laptop decides to stop functioning properly, it's on Mackinac Island! I'm using the computer at the internet cafe for this post, but it looks like the bulk of my postings may not happen until the computer issue is fixed! Here's hoping I can sort it out tomorrow!

In the meantime, I'm shooting hours of video and travelogues that I will be posting in the coming weeks. Have a great weekend.

Island blooms with Lilac Festival

The 60th annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival is underway! This island is noted for it's large lilacs many of which resemble trees more than shrubs and some of which could approaching two hundred years old. During a visit in 1947, Naturalist Carl D. La Rue wrote that some of the lilacs could be 118 years old based on his observations. The lilacs obviously like the climate of Mackinac Island.…
