On July 9th, make a visit to nearby Round Island and enjoy a tour through and to the top of Round Island Lighthouse. Each year, Freeland Boy Scout Troop 323 opens the iconic lighthouse from 10AM to 4PM and provides tours of the lighthouse, including the tower.
Charter boat transportation is provided for $10 round-trip, per person with boats departing from the Arnold Coal Dock (the dock just west of their ferry dock). Closed-toe shoes are recommended and you need to be able to walk on rocky surfaces and perhaps through a little water while getting in and out of the boat on Round Island. This is a very popular event, but the weather and water conditions dictate operation of the boat.
If you're on the island July 9th, try to make time for the visit to this historic landmark, built in 1895 and currently under restoration.

Comment by Hilde DaVanon on July 17, 2011 at 9:45am Just caught up on your visit to the lighthouse. How cool it is to have a picture that YOU took on your certificate! And I love the flying of the flag over the lighthouse. Pretty neat. Thanks for sharing your pictures, at least I can visit through them. :)
